The conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus have announced that their group is opposed to passing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s “cr*p deal” with Joe Biden on the debt ceiling. At this point, McCarthy is unlikely to be able to pass the bill without Democrat votes. There could even be a conference vote to vacate the Speaker’s chair if McCarthy has to rely on a majority of Democrats to pass it.

The deal was passed out of the Rules Committee on Tuesday, and a vote on the full House floor is expected soon. Conservatives are peeved at the bill because it will permanently lock in federal spending at pandemic levels. It doesn’t even cut spending back to 2019 levels!

“I’m going to do what’s in the best interest, and this bill is not in the best interest of the country. That is why Democrats are voting for it,” said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC).

It’s kind of amazing to look at how weak and ineffective the GOP leadership always is when they’re put in charge of the House or Senate. When Democrats won a one-vote margin in the 2018 midterm elections, they impeached Donald Trump two different times. Now that Republicans are in charge, we keep hearing about the urgent need to compromise with Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi on everything.

What the American people had expected was for McCarthy and the GOP to restore some fiscal sanity in order to rein in Joe Biden’s runaway spending. Instead, what we get is a bill that permanently locks in pandemic-era spending levels. Unbelievable.

The House Freedom Caucus held a press conference to announce that the entire caucus is a solid “No” vote on the Biden/McCarthy deal. Here’s Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) explaining why no conservative should vote for this bill:
