Just when you thought you were safe from MAGA Americans and protesting parents, the left is targeting new domestic terrorists: Catholic parishioners.
The necessity of tracking this new class of terrorist first came to light in February of 2023 through a leaked memo. The eight-page document outlined plans to plant spies in a Richmond, Virginia parish to uncover the depths of terrorist planning taking place at alleged picnics and bingo games.
This parish, believed by the FBI to be a hotbed of white supremacy, is especially troubling because churchgoers prefer “the Latin Mass.”
In a laughable moment on March 23, 2023, the acting assistant director of Congressional Affairs stated, “The FBI is not anti-Catholic in any way, shape, or form, and does not target people of any faith because of their religious beliefs.”
In another surprising twist, the memo quoted the slanted Southern Poverty Law Center, a hate group created to battle other “hate groups” such as mainstream conservative Christians and religious non-profit organizations, and used their debunked “hate map” as proof that Catholic terrorism is a force to be reckoned with.
The title of the memo itself is “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities,” which may give an indication of the intentions of the FBI if one reads between the lines.
In typical leftist fashion, apologies were issued, the distance was placed between leadership and the memo, and “nothing to see here” tactics were invoked. Meanwhile, the memo is quietly tucked into a drawer until the matter can be revisited without pesky Jim Jordan getting in the way. As usual, leftists are not sorry for the memo itself, but rather that the public learned of proposed plans to infiltrate a venerated religious institution.
FBI Director Christopher Wray claims he is “aghast” by the memo and that his agency does not “conduct investigations based on religious affiliation or practices, full stop.” The unspoken caveat to this comedic gold was, of course, “We leave that to the IRS.” President Biden is expected to speak on the matter once he learns what “aghast” means.
The newly energized House Judiciary Committee has had its hands full unraveling all the ways that formerly respected institutions such as the Department of Justice, the CIA, and the FBI have become weaponized against conservatives. From funneling federal funds into the Trump indictment to top-down mandated censorship of conservatives on social media platforms, it seems there is no limit to the overreach and abuse of power enjoyed by these agencies.
In 2021, Democratic whip Dick Durbin reintroduced legislation to address the perceived increasing instances of domestic terrorism. The bill, called the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, was passed in May 2022. Initially, the bill was yet another way to brand conservatives as a hate group responsible for the January 6 protests and alleged “insurrection” and spread misinformation from the podium regarding conservative “hate crimes.”
Interestingly, the language within the DTPA holds a requirement that anti-terrorism field offices “focus their limited resources on the most significant threats, as determined by the number of domestic terrorism-related incidents.”
Apparently, Aunt Sally’s Tuesday night Bible studies are a significant threat to national security and worthy of infiltration to uncover her dastardly terrorist plots funded by car washes and bake sales.
This latest abuse of domestic violent extremism resources comes fast on the heels of the weaponization of the FBI against terrorist parents who were concerned about their children’s education. These parents were planning on raising funds for their terrorist uprising by selling chocolate bars.
On the surface, the memo is just another exposed plot perpetrated against conservatives and those of faith in a laughable attempt to label traditional Latin Mass Catholics as terrorists.
A deeper look reveals it to be a darker intention to cripple a religious organization that holds conflicting views about abortion, the LGTBQ+ community, and other pet agendas valued by Democrats.
It’s an example of the left’s eternal desire to silence conservatives and divide them through fear. It flies in the face of both free speech and the freedom of religion, two values that define our nation.
Thankfully, through the tireless efforts of Jim Jordan and the newly appointed House Judiciary Committee, these plots will continue to be revealed.
In the meantime, there is always the hope that some Catholics gave up terrorism for Lent.
