The Democratic mayor of College Park, Maryland is a gay activist who has branded himself as a role model for LGBTQ youth.
He was arrested Thursday morning on dozens of counts of possessing and distributing child pornography. There were a total of 56 child sex offenses.
Patrick Lewis Wojahn, 47 years old, has talked about how he was “mentored” by the Biden administration’s Transporation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg.
The two met when Wojahn was first elected in 2015 and went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting in the nation’s capital. Pete Buttigieg was assigned to be Wojahn’s “buddy.”
The disgraced mayor has been a frequent guest in Biden’s White House for several Pride events hosted by the president. Wojahn claimed that Biden was “the most pro-LGBTQ President in US history!”
The mayor, along with his husband was invited by Biden to attend the signing ceremony of the Respect for Marriage Act on the White House’s South Lawn.
Wojahn was arrested after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) notified the Prince George’s County Police Department on Feb. 17 that images and videos of child sexual abuse were uploaded in January to a social media account operating in its jurisdiction.
It was soon discovered that the account in question belonged to Wojahn, according to a press release issued Thursday by the police department.
PGPD detectives led a search at Wojahn’s home in College Park, where investigators recovered multiple cell phones, a storage device, a tablet, and a computer before the mayor was handcuffed Thursday by the police department’s Internet Crimes Against Child Unit.
Wojahn is now in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is due to appear in court for a bail-review hearing Friday afternoon. The criminal investigation remains “open and active.”
Wojahn has submitted a letter of resignation, stating he has and will continue to “cooperate fully” with law enforcement.
At the White House on Tuesday, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, and among the many couples who gathered to witness and celebrate the signing was the mayor of College Park, Maryland, and his husband.
