With Democratic President Joe Biden officially running for reelection, it’s become clear that the party of the left is a bit divided. And according to some, the coming of a new and alarming contender could divide it even more.

According to former Speaker of the House and big-hitting conservative Newt Gingrich, the rumors of a Michelle Obama run for the Oval Office might not be untrue. And if that’s the case, both parties had better be watching closely.

His remarks on the subject came during a recent interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. Naturally, they were discussing the current reelection bid of Biden and the seemingly related leaving of his domestic policy adviser, Susan Rice. If you haven’t heard, Rice resigned from her post just one day before Biden made his big announcement.

Suffice it to say that Gingrich is one of many who doesn’t believe Rice’s departure or the timing of it is a mere coincidence.

When Bartiromo asked Gingrich about it, he noted that, at the very least, it’s a sign that Rice likely advised Biden against running, and he said, “I’m doing it anyway.” And I think, she just didn’t want to be a part of” his reelection bid.

However, Gingrich noted that it could be a sign that someone else is about to enter the political arena, which Rice might like better. Namely, the former speaker said that person could be former first lady Michelle Obama.

To be sure, this is not the first time Obama’s name has been spouted as a possible White House contender. In fact, her name has supposedly been in the running since her family left the West Wing. However, she’s always made it rather clear that she’s not interested in such a position.

In November of 2022, for instance, she told reporters in an interview that she “detest(ed)” being asked about it and “No, I’m not going to run.”

But is she just saying that?

Gingrich points to a recent event she held in Los Angeles with Oprah as a sign that she could be. He told Bartiromo that the event brought in some 9,000 people and had people cheering her on, even as she played the tambourine on stage with Bruce Springsteen.

“I think Republicans had better pay significant attention to Michelle Obama” as she is “not a person who’s hiding.”

Nor would she be the kind of opposition Biden is to the GOP. Instead, such a strong, well-liked personality might even give someone like Trump a run for his money.
