Well, folks, what do we have here? CNN debate moderator Dana Bash’s ex-husband, Jeremy Bash, was cozying up with the CIA. At the same time, he signed that infamous 2020 letter to Politico, dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop as Russian election interference. Talk about a tangled web!
On Tuesday, the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government dropped a bombshell report on the CIA’s role in the deep state smear campaign aimed at electing President Joe Biden four years ago. According to the Judiciary Committee, which has been on this since December, several of the 51 signatories were contractors for our top-notch intelligence agency when they sought to dismiss Hunter Biden’s hard drive as Kremlin disinformation. Yeah, that’s right, Michael Morell, the former acting director of the CIA, and former Inspector General David Buckley were both on the CIA payroll when the letter was published.
And get this: Jeremy Bash was also named in the report as an “independent contractor” for the CIA. He held a “green badge” clearance from April 2, 2019, to April 1, 2022, and renewed it on August 22, 2022, which is set to expire this year.
According to the New York Post, which had the scoop on the House findings before they were made public, Morell denied being a contractor when contacted. He wrote to the New York paper, “If you write that, you would [be] wrong.” Morell doubled down in a second email, saying he couldn’t speculate why he was listed as such by the agency he once led, insisting, “It’s wrong.”
But hold your horses because a House source handed over the CIA document showing Morell’s involvement to The Federalist. Robert Dugas, the CIA deputy general counsel for litigation and investigations, confirmed that Morell was contracted with the CIA at the time of the letter. “The evidence in our report speaks for itself, and it seems that the spy who lied is continuing to do so,”
Russell Dye, a spokesman for the House Judiciary Committee, told the media.
House Republicans have been digging into the CIA’s election interference for months after testimony suggested the agency solicited signatures last year. In March, GOP Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan pressed the CIA on whether officials interfered with federal investigations into the president’s son. Whistleblowers from the IRS told House investigators that Justice Department officials suddenly moved to block an interview with a critical witness after they were summoned to CIA headquarters in Virginia.
The latest report, published Tuesday, revealed that high-ranking CIA officials, including then-CIA Director Gina Haspel, were aware of the Hunter Biden statement before its approval and publication. Once the statement went public in Politico, CIA employees expressed concern about its politicized content, acknowledging it wasn’t “helpful to the Agency in the long run.” Even Morell admitted it was inappropriate for a currently serving staff officer or contractor to be involved in the political process.
Folks, the more we dig, the deeper this rabbit hole goes. And yet, we’re expected to believe this is just business as usual in Washington.
